Few recent concepts have had such a powerful impact upon society and across the globe as has “sustainability.” “Sustainability science” has emerged as an influential new field in science, such that many leading scientific journals (e.g., Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) now have regular sections for new studies in sustainability science just as they traditionally have had for more established fields such as genetics, neuroscience and chemistry. Economists have created new models and assumptions based on sustainability economics.
